Climbing the Mountain
Lonely, yet Happy
Jazzy, introspective theme for when you scale the peaceful, yet ominous mountain.
Composer's Comment
Last piece I made for Garnet, and also the last original composition I made for a long time. I uploaded this right before I started at the university, so it marks the end of an era in more than one way. I intended to make more, but it didn't go that way. The Garnet project is not officially dead, but I have problems getting any answer when I ask what themes they need me to make, so I've decided that when I make more, it will be back to my own projects (or for a paying customer, should the chance appear).
I'm not the only one who appreciates music written in odd time signatures, right? This here goes in 7/4 (and one measure being 8/4), and it was a wonderful challenge to put on oneself. I think that's an important part of keeping your motivation: challenging yourself to do something new every single time. The time signature coupled with the rhythm adds the impression of being left alone to your own thoughts, like I imagine you would be if you were to climb up a windy mountain without company. I've tried playing this in 6/8 (in fact, I tried both out before deciding on a time signature), and it just doesn't feel the same. The happy bits take a bit too much space, if you understand?
Either way, I hope you enjoy this unusual piece.
