Seasalt Village
Last Day of Summer
Nostalgic, tropical tune for a seaside village.
Composer's Comment
It's fun to play with latin percussion and other tropical "stereotypes"! This is the first time I've specifically gone for a tropical feel, so it was a new experience for me. Although I don't think it goes tooooo far, the melody is not too typical I think.
I like the melody here because it balances between the happy, no-worries feel of a resort and the melancholy of living a life based on the ocean, leaving family back home to catch some fish and hopefully make a living out of it. Like, the individual bits of the melody give a positive vibe, while also being sad. That's why I title this "Last Day of the Summer": It's still summer, but we still long back to the early days of the season.
Now, this could definitively need some more work, but you know, it's limited how long you can work on something before you're tired of it. That reminds me, I should probably have more than one composition in the works at any time, so I can switch to whichever I feel like working on. Maybe limit myself to three at once? I don't want to have a dozen half-finished compositions either. This stuff is hard, I swear!
