Elywind Village
The Home Town

A calm and laid back theme for a calm and laid back town, heavily inspired by my own home town.

Composer's Comment

A sweet and nostalgic melody is what I aimed for here, something which is close to home while still carrying some sense of tension as your adventure is about to start. While today I still like the melody, I don't particularly care for the implementation, with stiff instruments fooling no one about their digital origin. Velocity, variation in timing, duration and expression could have been used to great effect, but 16-year-old was happy with just plugging in the notes. (To be fair, I was still composing on my keyboard, without the luxury of a DAW, making it very hard to make such adjustments.) I also think the rhythm could use some work, that last bit before the loop doesn't sound right playing so slow.

In hindsight, this seems to be inspired by Phenac City from Pokémon Colosseum; that aforementioned bit before the loop is awfully similar to the same part of that theme. But then again, I love Phenac City, maybe it was a tribute. Stuff like that is difficult to remember 6 years down the line.
